Robic, Raphaël

Robic, Raphaël

Medium : oil

Born in France in 1960.

Self-taught, Raphaël Robic began to paint at a very early age. Robic is greatly influenced by the landscape that surrounds him: marshes, the presqu’îles of Vendée drying in the sun. He is also very influenced by the intense colours found in nature. Such colours as limpid and brilliant blues, lemon yellows, ochre mixed with intense touches of deep chocolate brown and sometimes black. Like all great colourists, Robic particularly likes the use of shadows and their various shades of grays.

While following the initial sketch, drawn with the palette knife, Robic mixes the colour and applies it in “real time”. He uses a brushstroke that is precise, nervous, and dynamic in its application. He also either uses his fingertips, the side of a piece of cardboard, or the “dripping” technique. His art is created with great liberty of expression. His art is both soothing and energizing.
