Lypiridou, Margarita

Lypiridou, Margarita

Medium: Oil and Acrylic

Margarita Lypiridou is a young multidisciplinary artist of Greek decent. She works primarily with painting, printing and artist books. In her native country, she studied drawing, painting, decorative arts and multimedia. Soon after, she moved onto study graphic design and photography in London, England. In 2002, Lypiridou settled in Canada where she completed both her Bachelor and Masters visual arts degree at Concordia University in Montréal.

Margarita Lypiridou’s art works are inspired by feelings, emotions, reality, dreams and memories. When she begins a new canvas, it starts either with a colour, a state of mind or a need to articulate a presence. Lypiridou’s work focuses on themes such as researching environments, the changing human figure and birds in urban waterfront landscapes. Her work is a result of a desire to seize time and to encapsulate the transient nature of people and things.

Since 1995, she has been participating in solo and group exhibitions in Europe and North America. Margarita Lypiridou teaches and practices art in Montréal, but continues to be inspired by her childhood memories of Greece.
