Levigne, Sébastien

Medium : oil

Born in Rochefort-sur-Mer, in Charente-Maritime, France, in 1977.

Sébastien Levigne first began his studies in Science. When he was 20, he came upon paintings by Jean Claude Roy, which made a major impression on him. Thereafter, for the next seven years, he spent his evenings and weekends painting. During that time, he found his way of painting, his technique, his style. He took part in numerous regional exhibitions in Western France, mainly in Brittany, where he completed his thesis. Inspired by seascapes, he is naturally drawn to themes to which he is partial such as rocks, low tides, and washed-up buoys.

In 2004, Levigne enrolled in the Maison des Artistes and settled in Bressuire, a small city in northern Deux-Sèvres. His paintings became more austere and bare. The motif simply became a pretext for perfecting the transparency of colours, while creating various effects with the use of mediums and the palette knife. The subject became anecdotal, bordering on the abstract.

Now 30 years old, Levigne regularly exhibits his paintings in Deux-Sèvres, the Nantes region, Saint-Brieuc and Pont Aven.
