Lagacé, Nathalie

Medium: mixed
Nathalie was born in Montreal in 1974. Since childhood, she has been fascinated by art and has demonstrated great creativity. Through the help of various books, she learned to paint horses and landscapes. At the age of nine, she was guided by a teacher who taught her how to paint with oils.
Her passion for art, especially the visual world of images, has led her to pursue her studies in graphic design at the Old Montreal College. Upon having completed her studies, she worked for several years as a designer for many different television programs.
In her photography lessons, Nathalie began to deform her subjects in order to give them another perspective. Her admiration for horses has made them her main source of inspiration. She likes to portray their contradictions; strong yet delicate, shy yet proud, distant yet allied. She observed horseback riding lessons to learn how to tame this wild animal that she so much admires. Nathalie pursued her exploration of horses and decided to place them in an environment where they would seem to be floating. The background of her paintings, that would usually impose the horse, suddenly becomes as light as air.
The paintings exhibited in the Beauchamp Art Galleries have been realized on large sized canvases. This enables the artist to use various mediums such as acrylic, ink, and oil. These varied mediums enable her to create the shapes, lines, and curves necessary to achieve harmony. Her brushstrokes reveal a soft sensuality, regardless of the subject she decides to bring forth.
Her astounding creativity as well as her insatiable curiosity has brought her to further explore the various mediums that she now masters in a remarkable manner.
After a short leave of absence from the artistic world, excluding a few exhibitions, Nathalie returned to her real passion and was once more able to bring forth her artistic endeavours. Painting has now become her means of making a living.
Moreover, Nathalie has also been chosen as the honoured artist by the Canadian Female Association in Paris for events that are meant to promote the Canadian female artists of 2011.
