Labbé, Annie

Labbé, Annie

Medium : mixed media

Born in 1979 in Quebec.

Since early childhood, Annie has not only been interested in drawing, but she has also touched many media related to this art.

After having been initiated to photography at fourteen and having acquired a certain degree of knowledge, Annie organized a photography club at her High School.

Her studies in Fine Arts, at Ste-Foy College, confirmed her taste and real passion for Art. In 2003, Annie obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts at Laval University in Quebec City.

The artist explored many artistic venues before being totally oriented towards painting.

Her encounter with Monet’ s piece entitled “Les Nymphéas” at the London museum has left its mark, along with the piece by Leonardo De Vinci entitled “La Cene”, which Annie fell upon while in Milano.

For the past five years, Annie has chosen to live on Quebec’ s South Shore. Here, she seeks her inspiration, her choice of colours, and her particular light. Annie is fascinated by the view she has of the city and of the Island of Orleans. A view she cherishes and is very keen on taken photographs of.

Her pieces are non-figurative. The landscapes she has taken pictures of are often those she likes to later transcend into paintings. As well as having a sense for light, she has a real love for texture. The first touch she places on her canvas is that of the palette knife, giving it a swab of modelling paste. Her particularity with this medium is the shape she creates. A multitude of squares, all interactive with one another, blending perfectly with the subject matter.
