Kingsley-Dobson, John

John Kingsley-Dobson was born in 1957 in Derbyshire, United Kingdom.

At the young age of 17, this artist was hired by an architectural firm. Quickly, he rose through the ranks, from office clerk to design adviser. At the same time, he followed his passion and studied building architecture part-time at Derby College and then continued his studies at the University of Leicester.

In 1981, the architectural firm let John go for budget reasons. This gave him the desire to go into business for himself. Soon, his work became popular with developers, architects and advertising agencies that appreciated his talent for making sketches of buildings, urban areas and housing complexes.

In 1991, he moved to Hampshire to begin a long series of collaborations with designers and landscape architects, specifically for hotel projects, large leisure centres and major tourism destinations. These collaborations allowed him to travel all over the world to lend his pencils and brushes to draw different architectural designs for his very specific clientele.

As a visual arts artist specializing in architectural representations, he has the honour of having his works in prestigious private collections of people known the world over, such as Prince Charles of Wales, Prince Albert of Monaco, Sir Paul McCartney and King Abdullah II of Jordan, just to name a few.

John Kingsley-Dobson also works with watercolours, which is a medium freer in its expression, allowing him to stage the landscapes of southern France and many marine scenes.

Despite all that impressive success, John Kingsley-Dobson said he was very proud to be the first UK-based artist that the Beauchamp Art Galleries represent.
