Louis Hughes, the poet, received his degree in French Literature from Concordia University in Montreal where he also studied Political Sciences.

His way of painting changed radically after a long stay in Povungnituck, a city in Québec's Great North, where he was exposed to Inuit art.

Louis Hughes paints traces of the wind, the cold, the Canadian moose, the geese, and the thin Northern trees. He has been exhibiting since 1988 and received a Mention of Honour and the Grand Public Prize at the Teilhard de Chardin's Centre in Montréal in 1998. In 2002, he was selected to represent Canadian art in a special exhibition in Boston, USA. Louis Hughes' paintings are included in many corporate and important private collections in the US, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and in Canada.
