Haynes, Heather

Medium : Mixed media

Heather Haynes is a painter through and through. Since childhood, she has been happiest when she is creating art. Heather studied fine art at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario from 1989 to 1993. In 1995, with the support of her family and new husband, she decided to make painting a full time career. She opened her home as a studio and invited everyone she knew. Right from the beginning it was evident that Heather was going to have a promising career.

Over the last 11 years, Heather has been a prolific painter. She estimates she has created close to 12 00 paintings so far in her professional career. During this time, Heather has had great success self-promoting her work.

For the past several years she has hosted a significant showing of her work in Kingston and Toronto. Recently she has decided to show her work in galleries in Toronto, Quebec City and she is bound for New York this March. Heather is also well known in Eastern Ontario for being a generous contributor of paintings and childrens’ books to charitable events. To date she has helped raise over $50,000 for these causes. She has illustrated and co-published with author Joanne Langlois’ ‘Bethie’s Got the Blues’ (2002) and ‘I’m a Great Me!, Another Bethie Adventure’ (2003). The artwork for ‘I’m a Great Me!’ was nominated for the Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon Award in 2004. This is a prestigious award that recognizes outstanding contributions in Canadian children’s book illustration.

Heather lives north of Gananoque, Ontario in a 19th century schoolhouse with her husband and their two sons.
