Francés, Josep

Francés, Josep

Technique: Oil

Josep Francés was born in 1959 in Alcira near Valencia, in Spain. He studied art at the Galatea Academy in Valencia and a few years later, studied interior design and architecture at the School of Applied Arts in Valencia. His work in architectural restoration allowed him to develop several techniques that he applied to his creative approach as a painter. His participation in multiple outdoor Speed Painting competitions also contributed to the development of his style. During these events, he managed to create very complex scenes in just a few short hours.

Greatly inspired by architectural design, he creates several geometric effects using lines that cross and intertwine the elements of his urban scenes, giving a futuristic three-dimensional look. In certain areas, he reveals architectural plans that recall the structural foundation of the cities, and the buildings that inhabit them. Through his works, most often painted in very large formats, Josep Francés encourages us to rediscover the bewildering energy of the great metropoleis of our world, and recognize the complexities within them.

For several years he exhibited mainly in Spain and France, but since 2005, he has participated in numerous national and international competitions, and acquired an international reputation. His works are now found in galleries in London, Paris, New York, Vienna, Geneva and Venice, as well as universities and museums in Spain. He has won more than twenty-five first place prizes for the quality and originality of his works, in competitions all over the world.
