Forest, Josée

Forest, Josée

Medium: oil, acrylic

Born in Montréal in 1967, Ms. Forest discovered the world of visual arts and painting a little more than ten years ago.

Ms. Forest’s studies and training were focused around mechanical engineering and after graduating, she worked in this field for over twenty years.

After a series of private art courses, the passion of her alter-ego took over and she consumed herself in perfecting a very personal and delicate touch to hyper-realistic painting techniques. Her closeness and deep feelings to nature in its everyday glory has inspired her to create wonderfully bright and evocative paintings.

Her favourite topics are over-sized flowers of all kinds, painted on extra-large canvases with details of few drops and reflecting the bright colors that nature has to offer. The spectator feels overwhelmed by the vastness of the plant and one can almost imagine being a tiny bee on those wonderful petals, as well as showcasing the fragility and soft beauty of flowers in full bloom. All these elements are prepared to please the eye as well as humbling ourselves to the beauty and greatness of nature in all its glory.

Setting aside the brush and her oil paints, Ms. Forest now uses her palette knife with the use of acrylic paints as her medium to create bucolic visions of wine and its accessories, such as long, slender glasses and wine bottles representing all the different vintages. Realism here is not as important as with her flowers and this art reflects a more obscure world of good times and the deep rich reds of fine wine made to please the eye as well as the pallet.
