She was born in Leningrad, in the former Soviet Union. She now resides just outside of Toronto,Ontario.

Maya Eventov studied Art at the St. Petersburg State Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts. She graduated in 1987 with a masters degree in graphic design. She began working as an illustrator for children’ s books. In the early 1990’ s, she immigrated to Canada and quickly became involved in the local art scene.

Eventov’ s paintings have been influced by artists such as Matisse and Gaugin for their colour scheme, Rodchenko and Malevich for their balance and composition. She finds her inspiration through her travels in varied landscapes around the world. She prefers, overall, the Mediterranean themed landscapes and the rural landscapes of North America. Eventov paints using special palette knives of different sizes. She likes to apply thick layers of acrylic paint to the canvas as well as using a series of varnishes designed to create a ‘wet paint effect’. Her paintings always transcend feelings of happiness and are filled with positive energy.

Her paintings are very much appreciated and are represented in galleries throughout Canada, Great Britain, and the United States.
