Dumont, Gabrielle

Media: Acrylic and mixed media on canvas.

Born in the Rouyn-Noranda region, Gabrielle Dumont now resides in Québec City.

Holding a Fine Arts Degree in visual arts from Ste-Foy CEGEP, Gabrielle continues her artistic career in her private studio.

Her work consists of the study of the human spirit with all its complex and intense moods. These human attributes are a source of unlimited inspiration for the artist and they show up in almost all of her paintings. Individually or in multiples these moods are always integrated wonderfully in her compositions.

Painting in a very intuitive style, Ms. Dumont avoids too much prior planning to her composition, leaving room for spontaneous and instinctive actions that will evolve to present a work created with strong emotion.

We will find in all Ms. Dumont’s work a highly textured appearance created by the application of modeling paste to the canvas. This “rough” finish adds to the brute force and minimalist approach to her human forms and en-liven the finished composition.

Gabrielle Dumont is an activist on all fronts in Québec City’s art circles and is member of “Ateliers ouverts” the RAAV, and the “Group of Eleven”. She has presented solo shows at Monts-Martres Canadiens in Sillery, a collective at Amsterdam Gallery in New York, The “Multi Room “ at Meduse Cooperative, the Tzara, Galerie Espace Contemporain, Magella Paradis Gallery, the Becot Gallery and at the “Gabrielle Roy Gallery” in the City library.
