Campo

Campo

Medium : Mixed Media

Born in Montréal in 1968, Christine Campeau, is primarily a self-taught artist. She began her journey in the art world by taking drawing and design lessons. Her personal painting style has developed into an exploration of different techniques in order to realize her projects.

Today Campo has over ten years of painting experience. She prefers to work with acrylic paints because of how well it moves. Introspection and a quest for identity is a reoccurring theme in Campo’s creations. Across her works, painting specifically, her theme seeks to reveal expressiveness, to distinguish what comes from others and what emerges from herself. Audiences appreciate the authority Campo’s canvases offer.

Campo’s work presents slender anonymous characters. They are painted in a very refined manner, as if the artist wants viewers to easily identify them. However, Campo prefers working with washed out colors rather then saturated ones, creating a mysterious scene. She mixes the colors until the canvas has a soft atmosphere.

Intoxicated by the music she listens to while painting, Campo allows emotions and feelings to dominate her work. Campo often starts on the background of her compositions with no intention of accurate representation. These emotions that emerge in the process of creating complete Campo’s paintings.

Campo has displayed her work at various symposiums, as well as solo and group exhibitions in Québec City.
