Cadorette, Martin

Cadorette, Martin

Medium : oil

Born in the region of Mauricie, Quebec, in 1973.

Martin Cadorette is a self-taught artist whose interest in art goes back to early childhood. Over the past ten years, his work has evolved from figurative to non-figurative art. His once large brush strokes have been replaced by bold and highly textured palette knife work.

Cadorette is very much influenced by Paul-Émile Borduas, author of the famed art manifesto Refus Global (1948) and pioneer of abstract art in Quebec. Cadorette incorporates values of black and white in a harmonious balance combining hues of earthy browns and blues. More recently, he has also been adding greens and reds. Using varying knife strokes, he creates a highly textured surface where colour and form gives way to unsuspected depths. His work fascinates, allowing the imagination to wander in the undefined world of aesthetics.

Cadorette has participated in numerous symposiums throughout Quebec. He has also been in galleries since the mid-nineties. He is represented in Canada and the United States.
