Savard, Bertrand

As Anaïs Nin wrote in 1954: “I could not live in any of the worlds that were suggested to me […] I had to create a world for myself, like a climate, a country, an atmosphere, where I could breathe, reign and re-create myself when I was destroyed by life…” Thus, in my Sherbrooke studio strewn with magazines, books, pens, paints, and cardboards of all colors, I created paintings, both figurative and imaginary, that make me feel at the right place in this world.

It is by assembling paint and collage that I enjoy creating a world that corresponds to my vision. I love working with different textures and I love juxtaposing black and white to very vivid colors. I use tiny bits of papers to give a mosaic-like feel to my paintings. I then reconstruct and rearrange them with sheets of metal that are screwed to my canvases. These bring a raw contrast to the poetry of my subjects and of my compositions, that are always full of love and delicacy.

One can find hearts in my production, as if love were at the center of everything; a daily necessity. In a nutshell, I seek to share through my visual creations a world imbued with love, sometimes with joy or pain, but above all, with tenderness.
