Bastarache, Albert

Medium : oil, gouache, ink and watercolour.

Albert Bastarache was born in Kénogami , Quebec , in 1937. He graduated from the École des beaux-arts de Québec. In 1966, he earned a masters' degree and a teaching diploma in Applied Arts.

His style, in abstract and figurative art, was quite unusual. He defines his abstract style as being a lyric expression with linear shapes. "I have transposed my way of composing abstract paintings into my figurative art. Figurative elements are inserted into an abstract composition." Both forms of art gave him a great deal of artistic freedom.

Bastarache held solo exhibitions at Laval University (1971), the Galerie du Palais Montcalm de Québec (1972), the Benedek Grenier Gallery (1974, 1976 and 1977), the Imagerie Gallery in Toronto (1975) and the Lacerte Gallery in Quebec City (1984 and 1990). He participated in many group exhibitions between 1968 and 1992.

Collections :
Bastarache's works are part of numerous private and public collections.
